About Us
The Caerus Foundation supports organizations and programs that expand educational opportunities for young people, cultivate a more inclusive arts community, preserve the natural world for future generations, and engage communities to alleviate poverty, reduce violence, and build self-sufficiency.
Established in 2001, the Caerus Foundation was conceived from the founders’ desire to promote equity in their own backyard, as well as in disadvantaged communities around the world. Believing that the underlying causes of social and economic problems cannot be addressed alone, Caerus collaborates with other funders to share ideas, resources, and expertise, as well as to encourage partnerships between organizations with mutual objectives. Domestically, Caerus supports organizations in San Francisco, Chicago, and the greater Midwest. Internationally, the Foundation supports organizations primarily across Africa and Southeast Asia.
Caerus invests in highly motivated organizations with exceptional leadership that are driven by brave and bold ideas to change the world today.
Caerus, in Greek mythology, was the god of opportunity, luck, and favorable moments. He was a symbol of the fleeting moment in which things are possible, and suggests that one should seize opportunity as it approaches.
